US Attorney Suggests Ripple (XRP) and SEC Are Discussing Settlement Amount
U.S. attorney Fred Rispoli took to Twitter to suggest that Ripple (XRP) is likely engaged in discussions with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding a settlement amount in their ongoing lawsuit. He mentioned that the SEC’s decision to file a lawsuit against Ripple’s executives, including Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen, may imply that the lawsuit itself was unreasonable or that the court no longer trusted the SEC. While the former scenario suggests a lengthy legal process, the latter indicates that a final settlement may be imminent. Rispoli previously noted that the SEC had brought the Ripple executives into the lawsuit to find common ground in the Ripple case.
In response to this, former Wall Street analyst Linda P. Jones commented, “I concur, but I believe Ripple has the upper hand in the negotiation process. Since the Hinman speech, the SEC has lost its bargaining power, and Ripple can clearly outline their terms in any potential settlement.
